History
Winegrowing has a long tradition in the Keringer family, reaching back over several generations. The decisive turn towards today's internationally recognised quality operation, however, came in 2004, when Robert and Marietta Keringer took over the estate and consistently focused it on high-quality red wines. Robert Keringer is a graduate of the renowned Klosterneuburg wine school and brought from the outset the craft and quality standards that shaped the estate's rise.
In the following years, the operation grew steadily – both in vineyard area and in team size. Today Keringer farms around 100 hectares and employs more than 20 people, making the family winery one of the largest and best-known red-wine producers by Lake Neusiedl. The very first vintage of the GRANDE CUVÉE, from 2004, became a SALON winner and set the young estate's ambition early on.
Location & Terroir
The estate lies in Mönchhof, in the heart of the Neusiedlersee wine region in northern Burgenland. Decisive is the large, shallow Lake Neusiedl: acting as a huge heat reservoir, it moderates temperatures, provides mild nights and a long, even ripening phase. The Pannonian climate, with hot, dry summers and plenty of sunshine, offers ideal conditions for fully ripe, robust red wines.
The soils around the lake are varied, ranging from gravel and sand to heavier, humus-rich sites. This combination of warm climate, balancing lake influence and nutrient-rich soils is the foundation for varieties such as Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent to reach full ripeness and concentration here. The region is rightly regarded as one of Austria's finest red-wine areas.
Style & Philosophy
The estate's signature is unmistakable: powerful, concentrated and dry-made red wines with dense fruit and structure. The red-wine share sits at around 80 percent and is rising. At the core of the style is the exceptionally long skin contact. For the 100 DAYS line, the wine stays on its skins for at least 100 days, in contact with the grape skins. This unusual method extracts particularly high levels of colour, tannin and aroma, giving the wines their enormous depth and concentration.
Alongside its innovative winemaking, Keringer is committed to sustainability and has been certified Nachhaltig Austria since 2019. White varieties such as Grüner Veltliner and Chardonnay round out the range, yet the estate's clear focus lies on its big, long-lived red wines.

The range is clearly divided into several lines that show the estate's style at different levels:

The main varieties are Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent, often complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon in the blends. The wines regularly rank among the highest-rated robust reds in Burgenland.
Awards
Keringer is a founding member of the Neusiedlersee DAC and has consistently gathered top ratings for years. At the Berlin Wine Trophy, the estate has been named “Best Austrian Producer” several times – roughly a dozen times in a row. Add to that repeated wins in the Golden League and at the Austrian SALON, the national wine award. The top blend MASSIV regularly earns Falstaff top marks, such as around 94 points for younger vintages. There is also a curious world record: Keringer holds the record for the largest glass wine bottle in the world.
