As a rule of thumb: the preparation matters more than the ingredient. Hearty dishes can handle bold wines, acidity in the food calls for acidity in the wine, and sweetness needs a wine that's at least as sweet. In the app, you simply photograph your dish and get a matching recommendation – even straight from your own wine cellar.

A good wine is above all balanced: acidity, sweetness, tannins, and alcohol are in harmony, and the taste lingers noticeably after swallowing (a long finish). Price alone is no proof of quality – there are excellent wines under 10 euros, too. In our knowledge section, we explain step by step what to look for when buying and tasting.

Cool (ideally 10–14 °C), dark, free of vibrations, and at a constant temperature – a cellar room or wine fridge is ideal. Bottles with natural corks should be stored lying down so the cork stays moist. The app also reminds you when each wine in your cellar reaches its optimal drinking window.

These terms describe the residual sugar content of a wine: dry wines have a maximum of 9 grams of residual sugar per liter, medium-dry up to 18 grams, and sweet up to 45 grams – anything above that counts as a fully sweet dessert-style wine. So dry doesn't mean sour or harsh – it simply means the sugar from the grapes was almost completely fermented into alcohol.

Light white wines and rosé at 8–10 °C, full-bodied white wines at 10–12 °C, light red wines at 14–16 °C, and full-bodied red wines at 16–18 °C. The often-quoted 'room temperature' dates back to the days of unheated rooms – modern living rooms are usually too warm for red wine.
