Summary
The Korrell Johanneshof winery in Bad Kreuznach-Bosenheim is today one of the established top producers of the Nahe. In the sixth generation, Martin and Britta Korrell run the family business, whose roots reach back to 1832. Some 26 hectares are planted mostly with Riesling as well as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and other varieties. Characteristic is a clearly tiered quality pyramid from estate and village wines up to the single-vineyard wines from some of the best Nahe terroirs. With the switch to organic farming from the 2023 vintage, the estate has consistently chosen the path toward natural, precise viticulture.
History
The Korrell family looks back on a long winegrowing tradition documented as far back as 1832. Over generations, a specialised winery grew out of a mixed agricultural business. The estate name “Johanneshof” points to these farming origins, from which today’s clearly quality-focused estate has developed.
In the sixth generation, Martin and Britta Korrell shape the business. They have streamlined the range, consistently developed the sites by origin, and led the estate into the front row of Nahe producers. An important milestone of the more recent history is the switch to certified organic viticulture from the 2023 vintage.
Location & Terroir
The Nahe is regarded as one of the most diverse winegrowing regions in Germany – very different soils meet here within a small area. It is exactly this geological diversity that is mirrored in the estate’s wines: the spectrum ranges from weathered volcanic rock through slate and sandstone to loamy-sandy soils.
The vineyards lie at classic Nahe addresses in Bad Kreuznach, Norheim, Niederhausen and Schloßböckelheim. The mild climate, sheltered slopes and mineral soils give the Rieslings their typical combination of fruit, freshness and salty minerality.
Style & Philosophy
Stylistically, clearly structured, mostly dry wines take centre stage at Korrell. The Rieslings are precise, mineral and origin-driven; the Pinot varieties – Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris – round out the range with creaminess and structure. The quality pyramid follows the principle of estate wine, village wine and single-vineyard wine: the tighter the origin, the clearer the terroir expression.
With the switch to organic, the signature has sharpened further. Living soils, reduced yields and careful cellar work are meant to make the wines even clearer and more site-typical, without losing their approachability.
Notable Sites & Wines
The heart is formed by the Riesling single-vineyard wines from the estate’s best parcels:
- Bad Kreuznacher Paradies, Rosenberg and St. Martin
- Norheimer Kirschheck
- Niederhäuser Klamm
- Schloßböckelheimer In den Felsen and Königsfels
Added to these are fruit-forward estate and village wines as well as fine Pinots, which round out the estate beyond the Riesling peaks.
Awards
The Korrell winery is listed in the leading wine guides and is regularly named as one of the reliable top estates of the Nahe. The combination of long family tradition, a clearly defined site hierarchy and the consistent conversion to organic viticulture has earned the estate growing recognition in recent years – and makes it a fixture among the quality-focused producers of the region.
